So, we ventured off on to San Diego last Thursday and what would our first family vacation be without a little added adventure? We were supposed to fly out of Idaho Falls, but due to heavy fog they delayed our flight then later canceled it. To help us still make it to San Diego on Thursday, they put us on a flight out of Pocatello, so we took a little road trip and flew to Salt Lake from there. With the delay we had an extended layover in Salt Lake, which was made better when Grandma and Grandpa Bronson were able to stop by and visit for a while. It was a nice treat for the kids and helped make a long day more bearable for them.
We got into San Diego around 10 p.m. and the adventure continued. We had a glitch with the GPS unit in our rental car. We thought we loaded the address for our Holiday Inn, but as it turned out, we accidentally selected another Holiday Inn (we learned that sometimes you should trust your gut more than technology). After our little detour, we got to our hotel and Ryan ran to the store to grab some essentials and we settled into bed about 1:00 a.m. Even with the travel challenges, we were happy to be in a warmer climate with a few of fun days ahead of us.
Friday we relaxed and went to a few parks and beaches. The kids both had so much fun! While we were there the tide started to roll in and Connor ventured out a little far and got knocked over by the water. It scared him a little, but he popped right back up and kept playing with and eating the sand.
Saturday we went to the Wild Animal Park. It has lots of animals in their natural habitat and you get to go on this little Journey Into Africa Safari ride. The most amazing and cutest part was the Lion Camp. One daddy lion and two moms had 7 little lion cubs. They put on quite a show playing as a family.
Sunday we went to Legoland and that was the best day of the trip. The weather was amazing and the park is built for younger kids. Ally was tall enough to ride almost every ride and Connor was even tall enough to ride a few rides. Connor’s favorite was a helicopter ride that went up and down and turned around. We spent the whole day there and could have gone back then next day, but we had to go home.
We traveled home Monday and it was a little easier coming than going. When we stepped off the plane in Pocatello it was cold and the wind was hollowing, which made the trip feel that much better. All in all it was a great trip. It was a lot of work and a learning experience. It would be fun to make it an annual occasion, but right now it feels like we should scale things back a bit and maybe go to St. George to get our warm weather fix. Flying with two young kids can test your patience, but hey, that all comes with the territory of having a family. I did realize that Ryan and I have been blessed and a little spoiled that we have been able to go on a few trips with just the two of us. I think that it’s good to do both.
I do have to say Ryan was great. He planed so much of this trip and was really good with the kids. Thanks babe for ever thing you did, we had such a great time.
